Does your refrigerator smell? Here’s how to freshen up a stinky fridge.

Even the best of us can sometimes leave food in the fridge for too long, and this can result in a very unpleasant odor. Sometimes the smell will even remain after you take the food out. If you frequently struggle with this problem, there are some easy solutions that you can use to get your fridge smelling nice and clean again. Here are some tips to help you freshen up a smelly fridge.

Baking Soda
Baking soda naturally absorbs odors, so it’s a great way to remove some of the more unpleasant smells from your fridge. All you need to do for this to work is to leave a baking soda can open for at least a day in your fridge. It should naturally neutralize the smells and make them go away.

Vanilla has a very pleasant smell, and it works well for deodorizing your kitchen. Take a small amount of vanilla extract and pour it in a bowl. Set it in your fridge and replenish every few days to keep your fridge smelling nice and clean. Many people like vanilla for this purpose because it not only cancels out the unpleasant smells in your fridge but also has a sweet, appetizing smell on its own.

Coffee is another substance that is very odor absorbent. Ground up some coffee beans and place them on a plate in your fridge for at least a day. You should notice that the odor has completely deteriorated. Of course, you may have a slight hint of a coffee odor, but this is preferable to the unpleasant smell that your fridge had before.

Of course, to prevent your fridge from smelling in the first place, you need to keep things clean. Be sure to throw out food that’s past its best by date, and clean out the entire fridge every so often as well. If you are really struggling with this problem, you may want to stay away from meat as well, as these are usually the items that cause the biggest problems. If you actively take steps to prevent fridge odor, you won’t have to treat it after the fact.
